There are currently 3 main Shia Islamic groups. Over all Shia is the 2nd largest of the Islamic religions.

The two main groups of Muslims split after Muhammad's death.

Shia Muslims believe that after the last pilgrimage, Muhammad ordered the gathering of Muslims at the pond of Khumm and it was there that Muhammad nominated Ali to be his successor

So to all of the non Muslim world, yes of course they are, they practice most of the same religious beliefs, but to each other, each group believes the other group is wrong.
So each group does not accept the leaders of the other group.

So to your faith, no they are not, since she does not follow the same leaders of your faith


But the issue is can you marry, since marriage to other faiths happen, it would be no difference than marriage to a Christian, or to a Buddhist. Does your family agree to marriage, and does her family agree to marriage?

Of course you failed to ask if the girl was at risk of being killed for doing so, if she disrespected her parents and married outside of their faith? Happens all the time in other cultures.

You failed to ask if he would be treated as "dead" and disowned by his family, a large disgrace in many areas of the world.

Love is not the reason for marriage in many parts of the world, often couples only marry with parents permission.

They would not want them to marry a Christian either, but it would to most from what they have told me, be more accepted, there is that much hatred between the two groups. They would rather kill someone than have them marry in disgrace of their family
