Losing electricity in part of the house?
We have a house that has lost power in several rooms of the house... In one room for example the ceiling lights wouldn't turn on, but yet the electrical outlets were working, the fridge and stove were working. The next room in the house the lights were not coming on but dryer was working. The living room nothing appeared to be working the lights or the outlets. The garage was completely out but basement electricity appeared to be completely fine. The lights and the outlets both appeared to work. That was yesturday. Last night all of the breakers were turned off completely and turned back on, right after doing this, there didn't seem to be any change in what was working or what wasn't. Today the living room outlets started to work and some of the other lights that were not turning on yesturday seem to be working today. And yet not all the hydro has been restored, a lot of the house is still out. Anything obvious this may be?

Start by calling your power company. Most homes have 240 vac which are fed via two separate lines coming into the home. You could have a fault with one of their lines and the power company can check this easily.

Power goes out in part of house w/out tripping breaker Part 2 [ 2 Answers ]

How would I use a voltage tester? Would I go from outlet to outlet measuring the voltage? I've gone around the house and tightened outlets and opened the panel and tightened the screws that were not tight. I haven't seen the lights dim since I tightened everything. Thanks a lot! Gbrown
