HI,
I am 5 weeks pregnant and have cramps on left side. Is it normal?

Hi ruthbater,

If the cramps are similar to menstrual cramps, or stretching as you move about but then subside, it is likely normal. Severe or constant pain are worth giving your doctor or midwife a call. Certainly if it causes you concern, let them know.

Thanks DoulaLC for the helpful response. The pain is not severe. It's more of a stretching than a pain. As you mentioned, it happens more when I move around, do something in the kitchen or involve in some work. But this discomfort is nagging. Sometimes it vanishes on its own and sometimes it stays for a long time. I couldn't get the OBGYN's appointment till my 8th week as they don't take patients before 7 or 8 weeks. A nurse advised me to go to ER if the discomfort persist. I don't think it is so urgent. Just the dull ache disturbs me at times. Do you think I should find another OBGYN who is available in the coming weeks?
