I wanted to ask beacause I'm only 13 and I want it done for m birthday and I wanted to now if it hurt if u don't have numbing cream my mom said when she had it done it didn't hurt but that's my moms opinion I want someone Else's opinion and if your under 18 can u have it done with an adult or can u do it on your own! Everybody's tragus is different. Tragus is cartilage, unlike the softer lobe, and takes longer to heal, plus the jewelry is closer to the face and might rub. Visit a shop that has an excellent reputation for more advice about your particular ear.

Everyone's pain level is different. What may hurt you may not hurt me and visa versa.

The laws vary by location as to whether you can get it done at your age with parental permission.

It does NOT hurt--well, it depends on your level of pain tolerance. If you have any other ear cartilage piercings, then the tragus will be one notch higher in pain from a regular cartilage ear piercing. When I got my tragus done, it was just a big "crunch" and it was over.

:-) Sleeping on it wasn't so bad, either--just take precautions.

Doing it yourself is problematical due to infection, measuring properly, pain.

As J9 said - everyone has a different tolerance for pain. A twinge to me might be a stab to you.

I always laugh when I get any kind of shot or have blood drawn and the Tech says, "You may feel a pinch." I think they lie!

Where matters, of course, because laws differ.

I've had mine done a few years ago and its painless. I'm wanting to get my cartilage pierced tonight maybe. Wonder how that feels.

Having it done don't hurt at all I can't stand pain at all and I just felt a pain like a static shock

I got mine done about 4 weeks ago already. And honestly I didn't hear anything when the needle went in. All I felt was pressure and it strings a little bit after but, every one is different.

I had my tragus done 2wks ago and it didn't hurt as much as I thought it was going to. Just as the needle went though the cartilige is when it did hurt a little but was over within 30 seconds as the ring was put in. never heard any crunching noises either just slight pressure but its literally over in a matter of about 1min.

A LOT is dependent upon the skill of the piercer you select. When it is done swiftly and smoothly, there is a minimum of pain. If you want to watch a video of me doing a tragus piercing, you can see it here.

The feeling of having it done is temporary. More important is whether you have the patience to care for it consistently for many months of healing.

It's not horrible, no. When they use a feeding tube it takes the pressure off a whole lot. Make sure you go to a shop that does NOT use rubbing alcohol or ones that recommend you use hydrogen peroxide to clean your piercing - that will cause hypotrophic scarring and/or keloid scarring depending on how light/dark your skin is. Just wash it with soap and it'll heal just fine but cartilage can take up to 6 months to heal fully.
