Filing Tax Wife works in Florida while I am in Georgia
We are non resident aliens. My wife works and live in Florida while I work and live in Georgia. Can we opt to file Jointly in Federal return and Married filling separately for State Tax return Or is there any other better way? I would like to mention Florida does not have a state tax. Can anyone suggest which would be batter Married filling Jointly or Married Filling separately? Is there a way how we can allocate her income to Florida state and mine to Georgia State, for a state Tax return and still file Jointly for Federal Tax return. Is there any software that helps with this.

Non-resident aliens CANNOT file a joint federal return; you MUST file separately, filing Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ PLUS Form 8843.

Georgia is one of those states that MANDATE you file the same way you filed on the federal return, so you MUST file Married Filing separately on your Georgia return as well.

CINTAX is the only software to help you with the federal return, and all it does is simply complete PDF forms. It does NO type of complex returns.
