Kitchen Sink Gurgles when Sump Runs
I have a sump in my basement that collects discharge water from my washer, furnace, and water softner. The sump pumps the water straight up to the ceiling, where it ties into septic system. All the water drains to my septic tank/field outside.

The kitchen sink upstairs gurlges every time the sump runs. There is a check valve about 5 feet above the sump, and the kitchen sink has a Studor valve on it. I replaced the Studor Valve, but it didn't help.

I never smell any gas, so I'm guessing it's sucking air, but that should be solved by the Studor valve.

    Any ideas?

The Studor valve is a mechanical replacement for a vent. It can go bad. Not venting won't cause an odor but if it sticks open instead of closed you will smell sewer gas.

Hello experts: We just had to buy a new Maytag top loading washer (not the best, not the cheapest.) When it drains our kitchen sink gurgles (the water isn't sucked out though.) With our old washer (made in 1994) we did not have this problem - any ideas?

Why the Sump Pump runs now? [ 4 Answers ]

When I moved in here 2 years ago the sump pumps (have 2) very rarely came on - I did have backup issues (the sewer & sump pumps are on the same line) The reason was tree roots. Recently we decided to air compress the pipe lines to rid the roots. Now, all of a sudden my sump pump decides to run...

The set-up from kitchen sink leading down to drain to basement: 1. Kitchen sink - (R side) - connected to a P drain I think you call it -PVC-, connected to a "metal" T, which has a Studer vent gizmo attached to the top of it, then draining into a metal pipe straight down to the drain in the...

A plumber who came by to unclog a sink told the tenant that it was the septic (the house actually has a cesspool, not a septic tank). Unfortunately, I wasn't there to ask any follow-up questions. I'm wondering, is it possible this is a partially blocked main line out to the cesspool? Could it be...
