At what age do you need to see a obgyn?
I'm 14 and I've been having my period for 2 years and some of my (nonpregnant) friends have been going to an obgyn. When should I see one? Also, my period has had a funny smell the last couple of times. I am anemic and am seeing a regular doctor for that.

Mostly it is a personal decision and that has to do with your comfort level. If your having problems and you are secure with your current doctor then you might ask him/her for suggestions. Also you may be able to seek out a pediatric gyn. They may be more adept to handle your problems as your passing through puberty still.

Once you start your period, it's a good idea to see a gyno at least once a YEAR

I have never heard of anyone going to see the gyno once a week. Did you mean once a year?

ACOG (American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) now state that a woman doesn't have to see a GYN until she is sexually active.

ACOG will change their recommendations periodically. Their pamphlet from last year states starting in the teen years. I wouldn't wait until being sexually active as, for many women, that could be quite sometime. It's important to be proactive in regard to your reproductive health. Problems may arise, and need to be taken care of, prior to sexual activity.

Certainly visits should take place if already sexually active regardless of age.

BBRACKETT... have you spoken to your mother or father about it? Or to your family doctor?

I agree with you Doula, as cervical cancer doesn't always wait for sexual activity.
