Can your professor hug you if you are crying?
Last week my boyfriend got into a motorcycle accident and got hurt pretty bad. He broke both his legs and had other serious injuries. He was going to be in surgery for the entire day and I was worried but I still had to go to class that day. While I was in class I couldn't stop thinking about my boyfriend and the surgery.
I was extremely worried about and was afraid he was not going to make through his surgery. I put my head down on the desk and quietly began to cry. When class was over my professor saw that I was the only one who didn't get up yet. It was my third time taking this professor since he is great and teaches most of the classes in my major.
He saw me with my head down on the desk and knew it wasn't like me to sleep in his class since I always participate. He came over to me and are you OK Sarah? Do you feel OK? I answered I'm OK. He said it sounds like your crying? Are you sure OK? I lifted my head and he saw the tears streaming down my face. He said Why are you crying Sarah? What's wrong? I said that I was fine and had to go and tried to run out of the classroom but I couldn't take it and fell to the floor and cried even harder.
My professor rushed over to me and helped me up and said There is no way you're fine! You're crying hysterically! Now you can talk to me about anything, What's wrong? What's wrong? I told him everything and he comforted me by saying that my boyfriend will be okay and that he sorry about his accident. I tearfully that I know he will be fine but I am just so worried about him.
He said I know you are Sarah. You just have to have faith he will make it through the surgery. I said I know and cried even more. My professor pulled me into his arms and hugged me and just cried. He said everything will be OK sweetheart as he rubbed my back. He stayed with me until I calmed down. As I was still there I got a call from his mother saying the surgery was a success and that my boyfriend is doing well. I was so happy and so was my professor. He said Sarah I told you everything was going to be fine! Then I hugged him and thanked him for staying with me and comforting me.
He said that it is is job to make sure his students are OK and that he doesn't seeing any of his students crying and upset because it breaks his heart. I know he has daughters who are my age and the class met them because they go to the same college as me and they say hi to their dad if they walk past his classroom. Is it OK that he comforted me by hugging me and rubbing my back? Was he just being a father figure? Advice is appreciated!

Yes, you were upset he was trying to be a friend, why would you think anything else about it. You were the one crying and upset.

No it is not "their job" he could have told you to get your >>> out of the class room and stop your crying. It sounds like he cares about people. I don't see a "Father" I see a nice caring person.

Why does my son not like to hug. [ 1 Answers ]

My son does not liked to hug me, his mom or father. Anyone. He will let you hug him but there is no hug in return. This started in his late teens, he is now 22 years old and attending college.
