Hi, I was wondering, is it illegal just to have sex in the relationship or is just the dating in general and kissing etc illegal if both are happy

Don't know if it's illegal, but I've always heard "the rule of seven". Take half your age and add seven, anything above that is acceptable. So half of 16 is 8, add 7, so 15 is the youngest you should be dating.

Doesn't matter what's legal, or illegal. It depends on what the parents of the two minors chooses to do about it!

There are no laws that cover dating. All the laws deal with sexual activity. And it would be illegal to engage in sexual activity in most areas.

But there is also parental approval to deal with. If the parents do not approve of the relationship, or they do not know about it, there could be legal trouble for the 16 yr old.

In my opinion 13 is too young to be dating one on one, especially with a 16 yr old.

I really don't get it. My grandmother is three years older than my grandfather and it's the same with some aunts and uncles. It's just dating.

What don't you get? When did your grandparents START dating? That the younger you are, the more the age difference is magnified. At different ages there are vastly different levels of maturity and interests. As one grows older, the differences diminish until it doesn't matter. The difference between 24 and 21 is very different than between 16 and 13.

Sticking only to your question, sex would be illegal but dating would not. Post #2 states erroneous info so do not go by any rule of thumb, there are laws and that is what your question was about.

Please disregard this advice, it is totally wrong and has no usefulness at all.

There is no law on dating, but there is law on having sex. There is also normally laws on sexual "touching" even though the clothes.

Also as a minor you will have to get the permission of the parents of the minors

No one judge him.. If he loves this girl let him be ! I'm 13 and Im dateing a 18 year old an before all these people start saying crap . NO we have no had sex . I had to look though allooot of stuff on Google . No it is not illegal . Now if me and him have sex yes my mom and dad can press charges but I don't know if that goes for you and her ? Prob not so I hope I helped

You have your parents full permission right? Have they met him?

He can still end up in jail, sex/no sex. Just because of YOU being a minor. Parental interference comes to mind, and that's why minors are jail bait for grown men, even younger teens. How about contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for lying about where you go, and who with? So be careful as the law for older teens, and grown men go beyond just the having sex, and parents have many ways of causing a dumb guy from sneaking with there under aged daughter.

Nope you didn't help. I don't know the deal with your relationship, but I don't understand what an 18 yr old would want with a 13 yr old or why parents would let their 13 yr old date, especially not an 18 yr old. Encouraging such a relationship is not helping.

And there are a lot of possible legal issues beyond the sexual aspect.
