1998 Honda Accord LX 5spd turns off while driving
I have a 1998 Honda Accord LX 5spd and recently I have been having problems of my car turning off while I'm driving sometimes it doesn't even turn off it just shuts down then makes a clicking noise then is all of a sudden back on. Then at times when it turns off it takes a couple of turns of the key for it to turn on and even then sometimes it won't stay on. Can you please help me I have already taken it to Autozone and checked it with a code reader and the car reads fine, also checked my battery and alternator and they are also good. Do you think I'm am having the same problem and need to replace my ICM and coil? Please help I am moving to another town 9hrs away and my car is my bread and butter. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks

If the Check Engine Light consistently comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil inside the distributor. Apply silicone heat transfer grease to the back of the new ICM. If the problem persists, install your new ICM and coil in a genuine Honda distributor housing--all others are suspect.

Personally, I would remove and fully charge the battery. Most auto parts stores will do this for free. That's the only way to know for sure that the battery is fine. Charge it until the ammeter approaches 1 to 2 amps.

Do I get in my car and turn the key to position II and see if the check engine light comes on for 2 sec? Is this correct? Sorry I just want to make sure I'm doing it right

Yes, get in your car and turn the ignition key to Position II and verify that the CEL comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out.

The ignition coil inside the distributor.

Hey bro I took my ICM to get tested today and autozone said it was fine. What else could it be? I checked the rotor and it seemed fine also

My experience with testing ICMs on a Well's machine is that if they test fine they may or may not be good. I have seen this many, many times. The test does not come close to replicating the intense heat soaking the component receives in a Honda. If they test bad, however, they are really bad. Instead, I recommend replacing ICMs and coils every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.
