Need information about 1960's drug trial using liquid amoxicillin on young kids (ME)
Sometime between 1962 - 1967 there was a trial for new liquid antibiotic Amoxicillin. My older brother & I both had (either) measles or mumps (I don't remember exactly which basic childhood ailment it was), and we participated in this experimental antibiotic trial. I was VERY young, and while I have dealt with the effects of this medication my whole life, I do not have (and am now seeking) some details about this drug trial. This medicine made no changes to our baby teeth, but when our adult teeth started coming in, they were beige/brown. I am 51, and have not had white teeth one single day in my life (yet). They also began to deteriorate at an early age; even though my teeth were perfectly straight, I was prone to chips, cracks, etc. Involving the teeth in the back of my mouth. When I caught a cold, my two front top teeth would turn stark white, and the rest would get even browner for the duration of the cold. One by one, from the back & working towards the front, they have either cracked away until gone, been pulled (cracked w/ open nerve), and some have just kind of flattened out until gone. The last dentist I saw for a tooth extraction accused me of having a drug problem (I do not), and called me a MushMouth... Can anyone also tell me what the H>E>L<L< a MushMouth is? I am getting ready to find a NEW dentist, pull the few I do have left, and get dentures. I want to be able to speak intelligently about this to my new dentist. There is no one left in my family that could shed light on this for me -- I would sincerely appreciate ANY information available regarding that drug trial, and the true effects it leveled on those of us who participated. I was raised in Denver, Colorado; and the trial was in the early/mid 1960's. If I am asking this is the wrong forum, please let me know -- I will move the question to the correct venue. Thank you so much... Nise5280

I asked this question in January,2012 -- and I thank you all at askmehelpdesk.com for the email or two asking for more infor. to see if I could get an answer... I have recently discovered why no one could help me with more information on this subject. I was not given Amoxicillin. My brother and I were given an antibiotic called Tetracycline. I stumbled across this important bit of information accidentally, and found a world of information regarding the subject. Thank you again. Nise5280
