Has my son's father "abandoned" him according to the State of Florida?
My son is 9 years old his father has been in and out of his life, had paid child support when it's convienent to him and has taken me to court twice for visitations. Both times he was grantd visitations and would see him for a couple months and then drop off the face of the earth. This happened both times. Now my son is 9 years old and has not had any contact with his father in over 2 1/2 years. Not by phone, email, mail or in person. I heard from a friend that there is a law in Florida that after 2 years of no contact it is considered abandonement and his rights were automatically taken away. Does anyone know if this is true and how I can go about getting this done? Thanks!

Nope, not true. It is never automatic. There are two stickies at the top of this forum (Click on the Family Law link above) that explain abandonment and terminating rights. If you have any further questions after reviewing those please feel free to ask.
