My real dad's name was never on my birth certificate.
I need to know how to take a name off my birth certificate & put my real father's name on my birth certificate... Can you help me to know how to do this ?

Was your mother married to the man whose name is on your birth certificate?

How do you know someone else is the "real" father?

    I'm not prying - it's necessary info.

Here's the problem - without DNA to PROVE he's the "real father" you can do nothing. Unfortunately, that is the Law.

It's written to prevent people from claiming from an Estate by changing a birth certificate.

In NY, no, no unless there is an overwhelming need, Court recognized, to make this correction. The feeling is that too many families will be affected - the birth father's, the person on the birth certificate, family members on both sides and so forth.

Why didn't your father have DNA testing before he died?

    Where are you?

I live in Illinois.. it never bothered him are he didn't know I guess I never seen much of him at all.. I was 13 when he died.. I have changed my last name to his I guess that will have to be good enough... it will just never be on my birth certificate as my dad I guess... oh well...

DNA wasn't available until 1987 in the courtroom.

And if the OP was 13 that makes it around 1973 that he passed away.

I really see little you can do, Legally the man on the birth certificate is the legal father. And at this point and time, Little can be done to change it.
