Can my dad claim me if I file my taxes?
I'm 18 years old and this is my first job and first time having to deal with taxes. I made about 2100 dollars this year before tax cuts.I claimed 0 on federal and state so can I still file and my dad still be able to file me? And another thing I would be appreciative if someone can explain the whole tax thing to me, because quick frankly I haven't the slightest idea on what I'm doing. Thanks =]

Your dad can claim you if he meets the requirement. When you file your return, you can not claim your own exemption. Your U.S. Tax Return: Requirements for claiming a dependent

With $2100 earned income, you are not required to file tax return. You must file tax return if you have a refund.

Actually, he is NOT required to file a tax return even if he has a refund due.

However, why leave money on the table?? You can use online versions of Taxact or TurboTax and file electronically and probably NOT have to pay any filing fees.

When you file, MAKE SURE you do not claim your own personal exemption. Further, if your father uses a tax professional, ask if he/she can prepare your return. That way, you know it will be done correctly.
