Have had to replace the syphon in my toilet, this was done yesterday, discovered a small leak this morning. So drained cistern and undid the ball shut off valve and removed. Checked that all was tghtened on the syphon thing (all was a tight as I could get it), so started to rebuild the contents of the cistern. Dropped the ball shut off assembly and everything fell out, washers, bits and more bits. Don't know how to re -assemble it. Have tried 3 times now and have been met with a) water not shutting off, b) a fountain(guess who didn't put the lid on before switching the water on) and this final attempt with the water not shutting off again. And by the way It's still leaking from the bottom of the cistern, have tied a flannel to it now. Am getting very stressed now and shouted at the cats , not to metion nearly falling down stairs to switch the water off yet again, so anyone who can save my sanity will be put up for sainthood.:( :mad: :confused: :eek:

I'll be more then happy to help. By "ball valve" are you referring to the ballcock in the toillet tank? If so is it a float ball on a rod or a can on a wire?

"discovered a small leak this morning." Where was the leak and why did you dismantle everything to fix it? Please describe in detail the parts that fell out. Since most ballcocks have only a few parts once I know what type of ballcock you have it should be easy to get you back on the right path. Back to you, Tom

Thank you foryour reply. The Ball cock is on a plastic rod. The bits that fell out of the end that fits onto the water inlet, they comprise: 1x small cone shaped bit, 1x small nut shaped bit, 1 x black rubber disc bit, plus the cup they all at one time fitted in, which in turn fitted into the cup attached to the arm of the ball cock. I seemed to have fixed the leak from the base of the cistern (I put rubber bands on before re-screwing the nut that holds the syphon to the base) and hopefully it's still holding. I have been half drown twice since I posted my question, so after filling jugs with water I am defeated for today, but if you can help I will put you up for sainthood.

Ummmm...

Wouldn't it be much easier to just replace the ballcock?
