What you had is basically an introductory paragraph: a paragraph that give the reader an overview of what they'll be reading about. Just change/tailor the ending of the sentence to fit the your paper. The ending part in a way states your purpose of the paper. In the example I gave, your purpose would be to inform them of how those three parts of the home improvement business have changed since the Recession.

After the first sentence, go into a little bit of detail about those three areas or somehow tie it into the next paragraph, which will probably be about home improvement part one: the condition (part two: trends, etcetera).
