    Shopping lifting, Newfoundland, 22 yr old woman, first offense?
    Hi,
    I'm from Newfoundland and I am 22, Last month I got charged with shop lifting, had my finger prints taking and photo id. I work as a personal care attendant I left my job last week beofre this incident and now looking for a new one but everywhere I need a certificate of conduct. When I show up for court is there anyway to get it discharged so I can retain a job or what do I say to have a minimal charge? Is the person or anyone from the sore going to be there as a witness or anything?
    I've been good with the law all my life this is my first offense. It was at a dollar store and I think it was over 50$ worth but under 100$...
    I went to get a free lawyer, they told me to come back with bank statements and that there will be a lawyer or court defender with me next week (the 11th is my court date) but I haven't even spoken to a lawyer? What are the possible outcomes ? Or what is the worst so I know?
    Any help would greatly appreciated or advice.

    I can tell you as a Certified Personal Support Worker in Ontario who needs a clean record to work, that you won't be working anywhere in Canada where you need to be bonded. One of the worst personal offenses for us is stealing.

    My suggestion is, get a lawyer,but if this is your proclivity then forget your healthcare profession.

    Not what I asked at all? And I just stated my issue with the lawyer that I went and seen one but all they said was one will be with me on the 11th and I never planned on going back to healthcare I just want any job period, I just asked if there was any without a COC.

    Someone here did not find this helpful, or not what they wanted to here, but it is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH for people in healthcare who have a position of trust in any province in Canada.

    IF I did this, I would be out on my ear, no questions asked and I hope whoever did not find my reply helpful is not in healthcare in a position of trust.

    I don't know any job nowadays that doest require a police check.
