    1099's are not required for the purchase of products.

    There is some confusion on this. One of the consequences of the health care law signed in 2009 was that starting in 2012 businesses would have to file 1099's for any supplier from which they buy more than $600/year of goods from. But this new (and very onerous) rule caused so much consternation that it was repealed in April, 2011. So the final answer is no - you do not need to file 1099's for suppliers.
