Can NCO collect a 6 year old debt in California?
I have a debt from 2006 and I live in California. Do I need to pay this 500 dollar debt? Is it on my credit report now?

    Thanks!

    Hello v:

It IS beyond the SOL, but that only means they can't sue you. They certainly can come after you, though. If you HAVE the money, I'd pay it WITH the promise that they'll stand MUTE when the credit bureau re investigates the debt. That's cause after you pay, you're going to challenge the negative remark on your credit report. They'll DO an investigation, and when they ASK the collection agent if the debt is valid, the agent WON'T respond, per your agreement. If the debt isn't validated within 30 days, it comes off.

Get that agreement in WRITING from the scumbag collection agent.
