But because that idiot Bill yammered about it, that's what they did? I don't think so. The right has been hollering about PC groups infringing on their rights for years. Doesn't matter how any one else's rights have been infringed.

T'is the season to be silly. Perhaps we could persude OWS to hold a sit-in in a public fountain so they could get a bath, by the way it seems they have faded away here as the latest not global warming weather change has given us the coldest December day in 44 years not an occupy supporter in sight

I acknowledged groups like AFA and the Catholic League were behind the boycotts, but O'Reilly has a huge audience and people responded and in turn, retailers got the message.

LOL, I can't wait to hear how people's rights were infringed upon by stores selling Christmas merchandise.

    Hello again, Steve:

Please show me where the stores HAD a policy of NOT acknowledging Christmas, and CHANGED it in response to the boycott.

They have gone into Valley Forge like hybernation . Make no mistake ;this exercise in the fall was a prelude for their spring and summer offensive. The summer Dem and Republic conventions should be interesting . Will the Daley's of Charlotte, North Carolina and Tampa, Florida 'preserve disorder' ?

This whole thing is a hysterically funny power ploy. Yeah, I'm right sure that were Christ walking the earth today he'd be all up in arms about what we call the season. HE doesn't care what the hell we call it, experts say he wasn't born during the season at all anyway.

I would guess that all Christ himself would want out of the season is that we remember to be kind to one another, accepting and helpful to the poor and needy. Anybody wondering where the poor and needy are, take a good look 'round.

I'm not so much into Christianity since Christians got all weird and proprietary about 'what Christ wants'. All he wanted was for us to be decent human beings and I don't recall slavish salivating at his feet to be amusing to him in anything I've read.

    Hello E:

Facts, of course, are no deterrent to the fake outrage machine at FOX, because FOX isn't really interested in preventing religious bigotry. In a majority-Christian nation whose politics and culture are steeped in Christianity, these FOX zealots are interested in pretending their fellow Christians are somehow oppressed, contradictory facts be damned.

In propagating such an illusion, they're not earnestly embodying their religion's missionary spirit. Instead, they're manufacturing victimhood, all to gin up sympathy and create a rationale to continue ramrodding their theology down everyone else's throats.

That some feel this need to push their faith with such craven tactics speaks volumes about the nature of FOX News. Sure, our tumultuous world of bombast and chaos leads us to assume that the loudest are the most devout. But in practice, those who are truly comfortable in their faith are often the most humble about their orthodoxies because they have nothing to prove. By contrast, those who are the most insecure in their beliefs can sometimes be the most in-your-face about their dogma.

I can assure you it is not the devout that make a mockery of the season. It was not in your face Christians in a near riot over Air Jordans today. If anything it's the secular distortions that cause the excesses of the season.

    excon,

I'm too old to be naïve, but I do not and never will understand what the function of all the outrage and victim-hood can be. All I can see is either a perverted glee in controlling people and watching the puppets perform, or the ubiquitous power plays and money moves. My best guess is both.

I got an email that said simply:

"Stop worrying about what the season is called and go out and help someone who is suffering."

    Love, Christ

I always think of Mother Theresa and her quiet service that was sometimes punctuated with a bit of spice telling people to get up and do something other than - er - moan.

    Hello again,

This year has been particularly illustrative, as the fake FOX outrage machine got underway.

In just the last few weeks, the Heritage Foundation billed an Agriculture Department initiative to raise revenue for tree farmers as a "Christmas Tree Tax"; FOX News said that standard federal safety warnings were proof that the government wants to "tell you how to decorate your Christmas tree"; and they criticized Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, an Independent, for daring to consecrate a "holiday tree" — rather than a "Christmas Tree" — at the Statehouse.

I don't know. To some the loudest and most bombastic are seen as the most devout. But to ME, and I'm NOT a Christian, those who are truly comfortable in their faith are often the most humble.

Why should us tax payers pay a promotional fee to promote a product like a real Christmas tree because it is losing market share to fake trees ? If that is the best the Dept Ag. Can do then there is another Dept that should not exist.

I don't mind if the Christmas tree industry sets up it's own marketing gimic like "got milk "?. But why should the taxpayer subsidize it .
To put this issue into a category called "war on Christmas " is also quite a stretch . If Fox is doing so then they are engaging in a distortion. Conservative should not support the initiative for the reasons I gave . It has nothing to do with the religious celebration .

The issue with the former RINO now "Independent " Chafee is his attempt to scrub the name of the holiday in a semantics ploy . It is deliberately disrepectful to the traditions of the many who celebrate Christmas by decorating a tree.
There would be similar deserved outrage over him putting up a Menorah and calling it a Holiday Candelabra and it would make as much sense to change it to those words .

Many others celebrate the season both with, and without trees, so when government says happy holiday, might that mean everyone? This is a nondenominational nation.

Really? Between 60 and 75 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. That's a pretty big customer base to piss off as Walgreens discovered.
