Click on, ADA Guidelines Toilet Partitions
    For ADA requirements.
Handrails must be on either side of the toilet and within arm's reach. Height
Requirements of handrails will depend on the height of the toilet. (Handicapped toilets are 18 to 20 inches high. Aprox. 36 to 38" off the floor.( see images) Good luck, Tom

ADA code mandates specific measurements for handicapped toilets, grab bars and paper towel dispensers, as well as for mirrors, sinks, faucets, toilet paper holders and overall grade, shape and placement of plumbing fixtures inside the bathroom itself. I strongly suggest that you talk to your architect, or Building Inspector, to verify what exactly you need to do to comply with ADA regulations.

    In the interim...

For toilet has to be ADA approved, it has to have height between 17"-19", split-front plastic seat that will not spring-open by itself. Handle on toilet tank has to be located towards the open space. Toilet has to be 18" from the (side) wall. Toilet paper holder must be not lower than 19" from the floor and has to be mounted below grab bar.

Grab bars must be installed in ADA-approved toilets. These grab bars must be mounted to the wall in a handicapped stall. One bar must be installed behind the toilet and be 36 inches long and must be mounted 33 to 36 inches off the floor. The bar is required to extend 12 inches from the centerline of the toilet toward the wall side. The bar must also extend at least 24 inches from the center of the toilet next to the door side. On the side wall, a 46-inch grab bar must be installed a maximum of 12 inches from the back wall and must extend at least 54 inches from the back wall. This grab bar must also be mounted 33 to 36 inches off the floor. Grab bars may not obstruct the required floor space. Grab bars may have a diameter of between 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches.

    Hope that helps. Milo
