Slow transfer rate through LAN, why?
Hi, I am trying to transfer data from one of my computers to another through my home network but the transfer rate is very low. I have a Linksys router WRT 160N, a laptop connected at 65Mbps and a desktop connected at 100Mbps. Now when I transfer anything from either of the computer the transfer rate is around 2-3MBps and the networking chart in the task manager of my laptop shows that only 25% of the network is being utilized. Is there a way to use the network 100% which I guess will increase the transfer rate. WIndows7 Ultimate is the O/S on both of my computers.

Bear in mind that Mbps and MBps are two different things bits vs Bytes so a factor of 8.
You will NOT get 100% usage as there is overhead to take into account.
25% is quite normal especially with numerous files.

I would investigate why one machine is only reporting 65 Mbps connection as that's where your problem seems to lie. Is this one wireless or wired ?

Thanks Curlyben, yes I know the difference between MBps and Mbps :D.
Sorry I didn't tell that my laptop is connected at 65mbps through wifi and the other is the desktop connected through LAN at 100mbps. So this means that The speed can't increase from 2-3mBps. :(
