There are SO MANY things it could be.
I too had such a pain but on one side only. It took 35 years for me to go see a chiropractor, who diagnosed it as scarring around my sacral nerve (on the sacro-iliac bone). That nerve, unlike the more commonly complained about sciatic nerve, which goes down the back of the leg, wraps around to the front.
Good luck with whoever you choose to consult about this.
Keep in mind that it could be totally unrelated to nerve damage, from plain old muscle strain to kidney disease or other organs, rather than muscles and nerves. It's difficult to diagnose if standard tests (Xrays, ultrasound, MRIs, Catscans, PETscans, and blood work) don't show anything wrong, and many doctors won't even perform more than one or two tests, and say 'come back if it gets worse and tylenol doesn't help.'
You should keep aspirin, tylenol, and ibuprofin on hand and try all 3 to see which works best. Keep your back warm in winter, sleep on a good bed, don't carry babies on your hip or wear your wallet in your back pocket, or carry huge purses, and soak in hot tubs often.
