The arrow's initial upward speed is 50m/s, and 5 seconds later its zero. What's the average speed of the arrow during this time?

what is the average speed of the arrow on the way back down-that is, for a beginning speed of zero and final speed of 50m/s?

I just want to know how to calculate this equation

The average velocity is the distance traveled by the arrow divided by time. So, how high does the arrow travel in 5 seconds? You can use

$<br /> v_f^2- v_i^2 = -2gd<br />$

to calculate d, given that $v_i$ = 50 m/s and $v_f$ = 0.

On the way down the arrow will have the same average speed, although in the downward direction.
