Gr. 10 science lab, giving a balanced chemical equation with only the reactants
K, so our teacher gave us a lab, and asked us to provide a balanced chemical equation for each reaction. And I don't know how to find the reactants of a chemical equation. The first reaction was SiC HCl or hydrochloric acid added to boiling stones. We are told that hydrogen gas is produced, but nothing other than that. I don't understand. Can anybody help me, I would like an answer, but I also want to know how to do it.

Elaborate on this reaction. I've used Carborundum chips as boiling stones with acid catalysts and they DO NOT evolve H2.
