    Installed fan but light will not come on
    So I have installed a fan with light fixture in the guest room that has one switch. The brand is Hampton Bay and I can get the fan to come but I can not get the light to come on. I have checked the connection from the light fixture to the fan, bulbs, pulled the chain several times, etc.

    When connecting I did the following:

    Fan = House Wiring
    Green = Green
    White = white
    Blue and Black = Black

    Since this is a one switch room is why I connected the blue to black.

    Thoughts?

    Sounds like it's wired right, make sure the wire nut is tight on the blus wire, twist wire is easy to slip and not tighten. I usually twist the fan black and the light blue together and then attach to the hot lead. Did you check the bulb?

    Does this fan have pull chains ? Ceiling box black wire to fan black and light blue wire, white is common neutral to both fan and light, green is ground. With this setup, barring pull chains, the fan and the light will always be ON or OFF at the same time.

    So I found the culprit. I should have put this on the initial post but I bought this off craigslist and just under the light fixture I notice an indent. Upon further inspection the light fixture had its on pull chord which was missing from the pull switch.

    I ran to home depot and bought a new pull switch with chord. After rewiring and removing the old pull switch I now have lights.

    Thank you all for your quick responses!!
