    It's come to this...
And you thought evangelicals were wacky...

Islamic cleric bans women from touching bananas, cucumbers for sexual resemblance

CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any “sexual thoughts.”

The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve.

He said that these fruits and vegetables “resemble the male penis” and hence could arouse women or “make them think of sex.” Bikyamasr.com cannot independently verify the accuracy of the news item at time of writing.

He also added carrots and zucchini to the list of forbidden foods for women.

The sheikh was asked how to “control” women when they are out shopping for groceries and if holding these items at the market would be bad for them. The cleric answered saying this matter is between them and God.

Answering another question about what to do if women in the family like these foods, the sheikh advised the interviewer to take the food and cut it for them in a hidden place so they cannot see it.

The opinion has stirred a storm of irony and denouncement among Muslims online, with hundreds of comments mocking the cleric.

One reader said that these religious “leaders” give Islam “a bad name” and another commented said that he is a “retarded” person and he must quite his post immediately.

Others called him a seeker of fame, but no official responses from renowned Islamic scholars have been published on the statements.
One can only assume zucchini is also forbidden.

    Hello tom:

Yeah, there's a lot of weird stuff going on out there. What's your point?

MY point about your post is that they're OVER there, doing what they do OVER there... That's fine with me.. It's OVER THERE.

However, OVER HERE, we've got our own weird religionists. The difference IS, OUR religionists want to REQUIRE that YOU adhere to their WEIRDNESS too. Some of them are running for president.

To ME, that's a much more dangerous proposition than what weird people are doing OVER THERE..

    Hello tom:

I don't know. I just saw a commercial with Rick Perry.. He says that he'll repeal DADT, and end Obama's war on Christmas. Sounds to ME like he wants to impose HIS religious beliefs on us..

Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann would too. If Newt HAD beliefs, he'd impose 'em. And, Romney can't remember which side he's on today.

well of course I could turn that around for all those who would impose secular values on the religious . DADT . A repeal of course would need to originate from Congress .
I am not familiar with Obama's war on Christmas . But if there is one, then I suppose it's Obama who is trying to impose his beliefs on us .

    Hello tom:

That's the point. If Obama imposed his beliefs on us, I guess we'd have Christmas.

Maybe I missheard the news lately but didn't this administration start to tie foreign aid and gay rights? So now its not just about our country but we are trying to export our beliefs though benefits.

US will use foreign aid to defend gay rights abroad, Clinton, Obama declare: culture no excuse - The Washington Post

Who are we kidding here besides ourselves. Our politicians are out of control. It high time to go to the voting booths and do the right thing. This holier then thou thinking from Washington needs to be stopped. It doesn't matter who is calling for it because both sides are doing it. We just need a fresh start and to hole everyone accountable for their decisions.

    .
What else is new, dad, your country has been exporting its culture for years, mainly through your film industry which was given protected status, so why would you not resort to aid to export yoor culture. Your attempts to export your culture to the middle east through war failed. All I can say is I'm glad we don't need your money because we certainly have enough of your culture. The way you work you are making being gay compulsory

Yeah, we've got our own weirdness, those Westboro morons and Scientologists come to mind, but I don't know what weirdness in mainstream Christianity comes close to a cleric of the world's second largest religion delcaring certain vegetables off limits to women because they might remind them of a penis.

That same religion wants to impose their weirdness on you, too - by force (i.e. deadly violence) if necessary - but I know you don't believe that's a credible threat.
