    Hi aly1443,

    There really is not a reason why you "should" get them pierced young, it is a personal choice. Some parents will have their baby's ears pierced... others will prefer to have their child wait until they are old enough to take the responsibility of caring for them themselves, and some would prefer their child not have it done at all, in which case the child may end up waiting until they are 18 or so to make that decision.

    One plus of having your ears pierced is that you can often find a much wider selection of earrings for pierced ears instead of clip-ons. One negative is that you may experience an infection, although it can easily be prevented with proper care.
