Can I convert radiators to base board heaters
Hello everyone. I have a one pipe radiator heating system currently in use right now.
Now I would like to know can I replace the radiators with base board heaters? Also, I am told
That base board heaters are more efficient than the old radiators. So if this is possible, can
Anyone tell me what type or brand to use and how to swap radiators for base board?

    Thank You guys

    Hi Davidadrian

It sounds like you have a one pipe STEAM SYSTEM, right? If this is the case, then you CANNOT easily transition over to a forced water system.

It's not that it can't be done, but in the end the cost associated with changing the system to a two pipe forced water system would be quite costly and inefficient.

I kind of specialize in steam and forced water boilers, so can certainly walk you through things, but I need more info.

How old is the steam boiler, how many radiators, how many floors in the house??

    Back to you...

PS Baseboard is not more efficient than old radiators. Old radiators are the best heat going! Newer, more efficient boilers using baseboard are fine, but compare radiators to baseboard using an old system and you will find that radiators stay hot longer for the buck!
