Cracking and popping noise in 20 year old house
We bought our house two years ago and when we bought it the joint taping was coming loose in the rooms that had a vaulted ceiling along with some nails coming out of the ceilings in all of the rooms (second and third floor). There are also hair line cracks under all of the third floor windows. The inspector at the time said it was just a cosmetic fix. After buying the house we noticed the loud cracking and popping sound during the mid morning and evenings, mostly in the roof and some in the walls. We fixed the taping in the winter and by the following late summer/fall the fixed taping was starting to crack and come down and more nails were coming out. We do have a SIP roof and exterior walls. I would LOVE for the popping and cracking to go away!
