Dishwasher n double sink with garbage disposal
Sink fills with water from side with no disposal to the other side. Took pipes apart n both sides drain. Connected pieces n parts back together and the water does not drain. My dishwasher is backed up as well. Any suggestions?

]All you did was remove the trap and drained the basins, correct? Ya got to do more then that.
You have a blockage and it will most likely be found in the horizontal drain line in the wall.
The solution would be to remove the trap and send your snake up into the wall,(see image).
You will rub into a elbo about 8" in but once past that you only have 6 more feet to put out.
Replace the trap and flush the line out with a basin full of hot water. Good luck, Tom

I sat under the sink for an hour trying to figure this out. I took the hose for the dishwasher off an blew in it, it bubblesin the bottom of the dishwasher... so its not clogged. I turned the water on in the sink w/o the dishwasher drain tube n the water in both sinks go down perfectly! What am I missing, am I going to have to get my husband to pull out the dishwasher? Hope we don't have to buy another one...

Something doesn't sound right here. When you removed the DW hose didn't the water drain out of the open hole in the disposal into the cabinet? Removing the hose shouldn't have had any effect on the blockage. Did you run a snake up into the wall? You won't have to remove the DW for a blockage, Back to you, Tom

I took the "U" pipe off and drained the water from the basins. Then I put water back in them and it wouldn't go down. I took the hose off for the dishwasher n the water emptied from the sink without a problem. I reconnected the dw hose n the water inin the sink wouldn't go down.

A new one on me! By removing the hose from the disposal you vented the trap. But since both the disposal and the other drain are both open to the open air, Or did you have them both closed off?) I don't see how removing the DW hose would effect anything. Once more: Did you snake the horizontal line inside the wall? Let me know, Tom

Oh boy, Tom Im with you for sure on this one. Just doesn't make sense.

Char, can you post a pic of your plumbing under the sink? The only way I could see disconnecting the dishwasher hose make a difference, is if the hose is connected after the trap, (wich would be wrong). Also, this would only make a difference if you didn't have a vent for the k.s. or if the vent were plugged. I would start by doing as Tom suggested, snake the drain.
