Are we talking about a surface or a submersible pump? How deep is your well? Sounds like rain water runoff is taking soil down into your well. Please describe your system. Back to you, Tom

If you had a surface pump you would be able to see it. If not then you have a submersible pump. As I've stated. Sounds like rain water runoff is taking soil down into your well and it takes some time for it to settle to the bottom of the well. Have you talked to any well people about this? Cheers, Tom

No I haven't an yes I can see the pump I just drained off some water so it is about 8 inches below the top of pump. The water is getting clearer already.

While this is a explanation and not a solution. This may happen every time you get a hard rain. I this is a bother I'd get a estimate on repairing the problem.
But for now you're running clear. The way I see it you have three options here:
    1. Call in outside help to see what can be done,
    2. Install a house filter to trap the dirt. **OR**
    3. Live with it!
Good luck in whatever you decide, Tom

Dirty well water [ 5 Answers ]

We are on a well system. We have a water softner. Right now the cold water is coming out of the spicket brown. The hot water is not as bad, however, black water comes out in spurts. Is this a problem or something that works out? We have had occasional brown water but it usually clears up. ...

We just installed a new water heater... why is the hot water still dirty-looking? [ 3 Answers ]

We noticed a few days ago that our water looked dirty and had a yellow-brown tinge to it. We called a plumber in who said it was our water heater, which was rusted at the bottom and slightly leaking (although only 4 years old). We had a new one installed today and tonight as I was filling the tub...

Hi all. This is my first post ever here. In short, my water is not clear. The hot water is much worse but I notice that the cold water isn't perfectly clear either. When I pour a glass of hot water it almost looks white while it settles down. When I pour cold water into a glass it is not...
