Son's girlfriend living in your home
My friend's stepson is in his late 20s. He is out of work & has moved his obnoxious out-of-work girlfriend in with him. My friend was the one to invite her to stay with them for a short period. Unfortunately, there was no contract saying when she'd be expected to leave. Does the girlfriend now have any sort of 'Squatter's Rights' that will make it hard for my friend to get her out of the home? I'm not sure how long she has had this girl in her home.

No matter what length of time, she has no 'Squatter's Rights.'

Although I suggest, instead of simply telling your friend, "It's cool to kick her out." Maybe talk with your friend about the situation and come up with a nice, carefully determined, date, for her to need to move out. Abruptness is always hard when it comes to a living situation.

If this girl gets an attitude or is rude/disrespectful in anyway, have your friend simply say... "I'm sorry how much rent do you pay again?"

    Hope all goes well.

Please make sure you are giving 100% accurate information (and answering the question) when you post on the legal boards. "We" take great pride in our answers.

As far as rent is concerned - you can't now attempt to enforce a contract (or create a contract) when there has not been any contract up to now.

The legal answer is IF she's established residency (and it appears she has) she would need to be evicted according to State law if she doesn't willingly move out.
