Should I give him a monetary gift as a thank you.
My friend and I have been dating for about five months. He has been also giving me personal training workouts free of charge three times per week. Although he has offered for free, I wanted to show him my appreciation with a small monetary gift, the amount is no where near half of what I would owe him if he were charging me for the sessions. Do you think I am going overboard by giving him this?

How about a gift card to a store or to a mall or to a restaurant? Then you're not handing him actual money, but allowing him to choose something for himself.

I'm not so sure a monetary gift is appropriate. If he's a friend you should be able find out something what he likes and get him a gift. At the least a gift card would be more appropriate than actual cash.
