I have a carrier furnace with a White Rogers 36e gas valve. When I measure Resistance between terminal #1 and Ground I get 0. When the bimetal at the pilot connects 24VAC to the terminal it pops the fuse on the control board. I think the valve is bad with a short. How should I be testing this. Terminal 1 to Gnd?

The good Ole 5 wire gas valve not very service friendly. Give the make and model of your furnace will help. It's a pilot,pick and hold gas valve. Give as much info as you can about your system a short can be anywhere

Thanks T-Top. The unit is a Carrier 58ssb deluxe upflow gas furnace (cir 1985?). Spark pilot with a 3 wire bimetal. The bimetal is working. Both sides, NC and NO. The inducer is working. The air flow diaphram/switch is working, NC and NO sides. More detail about the problem - > I found the unit with the fan running all the time. The pilot was cycling but no main gas. I removed the control board and found a burned run on the back. Turns out to be the 24v ckt that pulls the NC heat fan relay open to turn fan off. I repaired the run. Simillar behavior but now when the main gas solenoid gets power (Terminal #1), it pulls the 24v ckt to 0 and the unit shuts down momentarily. It killed the control board fuse on the second cycle. Now I remove the wire from terminal 1 on the valve (main gas), The furnace cycles as it normally should. The fuse does not blow. Check resistance from valve terminal 1 and find 0 ohms, short. I found some reference to other valves that should measure 50 to 80 ohms. I think I need a valve. Thanks Again!

One other big detail. I did replace the board after the run repair. The fuse that was blowing is on the new board. The old board did not have a fuse. So between "unit shuts down momentarily.( add replaced control board) It killed the control board fuse"
