What could this lump be behind my ear?
I was just drinking my coffee and had an itch behind my ear and when I went to scratch it, I noticed there was a small lump there. It's about the size of a pea, red, and painful to touch. I haven't been under any more stress than usual, and I'm not taking any new medications, so I don't know what to think of it. I have epilepsy and do take numerous pills daily, but nothing has changed. I do plan to make an appointment with my physician as soon as I can, but I'd like to know first if this is anything that I should be concerned about because it usually takes a few weeks until I can get a scheduled appointment. Thank you.

Have you been able to get a look at it using a mirror or someone else? It might be nothing more than a boil. But those are real ovious when you see them.

I have looked at it. It's small, almost the size of an insect bite. At first I thought that it was an insect bite, but I'm not so sure now where it's red and painful to touch.

Boils can be small or huge... they do eventually develop a dark or a white head at it the peak (center), and they are usually red as it is a type of infection.

I've looked at it with a mirror, but I haven't had another person look at it yet. Since you've mentioned a boil, that's what I'm probably thinking that it is. I do share towels with my boyfriend who's a plumber and he often gets cuts and burns at work. He treats them, but, not as well as he should. I will treat this now like a boil and give it the proper care, and if I don't see any kind of improvement, or difference, then I will know to call a doctor. Thank you for your help.
