Doctor wants to extract last upper tooth that was infected due to bone loss?
I had pain in my upper back molar which is not a wisdom tooth. The wisdom tooth for that area was removed years ago. The Dentist took one exray and said it will have to come out and gave me prescription penicillian till the following week to pull it. There were no cracking and or cavities. The gumline had just felt sore and achey. He did mention the reason to pull as too much bone loss and would be unable to do a root canal with cap. I suppose this is pretty much standard and I should not worry? I have huge fear of dentists - He also said he would do periodental work on me - I told him I read up on the new laser technologies ( he said that was all a gimic?) But that he does not do surgury to restore gums. His title is only general dentist should I find someone else for perio work?

If you don't trust this opinion you should see a specialist. You apparently have an infection so don't take too much time, call tomorrow.

A year ago I had a receding gum line on one tooth. An x ray showed this tooth had suffered bone loss. I had a gum graft, and it was successful.
