I don't know if I should let go of him or wait...
So, I am in my (super) senior year in college in Virginia and I graduate in May. I grew up in South Jersey and I plan on moving back up to more than likely Pennsylvania after graduation. Now, after I graduated high school, I became very friendly with the drum line instructor for the marching band I was in during high school. We texted regularly, shared pictures, and emailed from time to time. Whenever I was home on breaks during my freshman year, we visited and spent the night with each other occasionally. During my sophomore year, I entered into a relationship down at school but I never stopped talking to or thinking about person number 1. The relationship I was in became very controlling and possessive and eventually abusive. I ended in 2 and a half years later, which was about 11 months ago. During the time I was dating, person number 1 told me many times that he thought we would end up together and that we were soul mates. The night I ended things with my ex, I asked number 1 if we still thought we were soul mates and his answer was simply yes. Now, to my question. He and I have been talking quite regularly again and he once explained to me that he wants to me to finish college and have positive experiences because of the relationship I was trapped in for so long. He is 29. We talk often but sometimes he doesn't return my messages at all. I think that he did not want to be my "rebound" out of my relationship. But what I don't understand, and what frustrates me, is that he not been in a relationship in the 4/5 years that we've been intimate, even while I was in a relationship he remained single. I have very strong feelings for him but I'm not sure if I should just let them go, and consider this a lost cause, or if I should hold on, and wait it out. Does he just want me to enjoy college and being single before I get committed again? I don't know why a man would continue to talk to a girl who is 4 and a half hours away quite regularly. Do you think it is more of an active interest rather than just an occasional "booty" call? Sorry, I know this long.
