To "circulate", or to "zone-valve"... that is the question!
    Hi folks,
I have a strange setup in my 2-fam house:
The first and third floors are oil hot-water-radiator heat, and for some reason they put in gas forced-hot-air on the second floor only. Now I have tenants on the first floor, and I live on 2nd and 3rd. The problem is that when the tenants put on the heat, it all goes up to the third floor- we're burning up, and they're a bit cool- so it uses up TONS of oil. They have one thermostat controlling their first floor and the third floor is at their mercy.

So I'm wondering which is (1) easier and/or (2) better:
    A) If I install a zone-valve and hook it up to a thermostat to control flow to the third floor, or
    B) if I put a circulator and hook it up to a thermostat on the third floor

Would be interested in knowing answer as well. Have similar. Steam on two floors with hot water baseboard in basement supplied by circulator. Want to add thermostat to circulator so it shuts off independently.
