    Hi Leon...

What exactly are we working on here? A hot water boiler? A hot water heater? A sprinkler or pump system? Need more info. Here, OK?

It should be as simple as shutting off the water supply into the water heater and opening the lowest faucet in the home to release pressure and residual water in the pipes.

Once the water pressure is releaved you want to spin the old expansion tank out clockwise... you can still expect some water so have a bucket handy. Be careful here as a failed expansion tank is VERY HEAVY as it is usually filled with water, right?

Put 6-8 wraps of teflon tape on the threads of the new expansion tank and screw it in good and tight being sure to hold the fitting with a wrench or pair of pliers while tightening the expansion tank with another wrench or pair of pliers.

Turn the water supply back on and run water out the faucet you drained the pressure from until the water runs smoothly and then double check your work.

If the expansion tank isn't isolated at the water heater it may be necessary to shut off the water main to the home, but most likely shutting the shutoff at the water heater will kill the water to the water heater/expansion tank and you can proceed as explained.

More questions just let me know, OK?
