Dirty water from washing machine coming into house sinks?
About three days ago I washed a blanket that has a lot of green and black in it. Since then I had to clean the screen on the cold water intake into the washer(we only have cold water going into it). We have a private well so I have to clean it occasionally. Since washing that blanket I now have green and black fibers coming out of the cold water faucets only and the tiolets. The water coming out does not smell bad and is clear except for the blanket fibers. What would cause this? We were having problems with the washer not working right but rent-a-center gave us a "loaner" for now and are repairing the other.

There shouldn't be any cross connection in a house. It almost sounds like you have a leak in a septic line that is somehow getting into the well water. Are they in line or close by each other?

I am not sure. About a month ago we had a complete blockage in the "t" that goes into the septic tank, It was replaced and everything was great until a few days ago. There is nothing else in the water that I can see or smell, just the fibers from the blanket.

Here's what I would do. Put a good dose of red or blue food coloring in a toilet and flush it. If your well water turns red or blue, you are somehow getting waste water into the well. Very bad situation as ecoli is present in your well water.

Thank you for your suggestion, I just called a lab and it is super cheap to test my well. I think I need a report to get my landlord to actually do something about it. She is not the most quick to fix important issues. Thank you for the help!

Water coming up from Basement Drain/from Washing Machine [ 2 Answers ]

I have water coming up from a drain in my basement when I use the washing Machine. My house was built in 1919, so it could be a number of things. Is this terribly expense to fix. Should I be trying something on my own before calling a plumber? Any advice or ideas are welcome. Thank you

No hot water coming into washing machine [ 5 Answers ]

We just got a new Bosch 500 series washer -- up until today it has been working fine (for the five days that we have had it!). Today I had an E 02 error message on it. There is no hot water coming into the machine at the tap. We have taken off the hose and no hot water is coming in through the...

Sudden loss of water pressure in all faucets (sinks/shower/washing machine) [ 8 Answers ]

Hey, I am hoping someone can help me out. We have a house 30 years old, copper lines, and we are on community water (so similar to city water but just provided by Aqua for the housing development). We had our water pressure drop suddenly this past Thursday (about 4 days ago) and it has not...

No hot water coming into washing machine [ 1 Answers ]

There is only cold water coming into my washing machine. It is a basic Kenmore machine from Sears. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the stainless steel hoses that attach at the faucet and I can feel water being surged through it. And it feels a tad bit warmer than the cold hose does....

Cold water not coming out in washing machine [ 5 Answers ]

The cold water dribbles into the washing machine when loading; I checked hose connecting machine to faucet in back. The screens were dirty; every time I do load the screens get dirty again. Is stuff coming out of the faucet? It seems to me. What does that mean? The hot water faucet is fine. My...
