    University error about late payment?
I'm a international student in Melbourne, I would like to ask some information about late payment, I receive two tax involves before the semester start, the first tax involves $14900 AUD payment due by 31-6-2011, but I suppose to pay $11700 AUD every semester, so $14900 AUD was wrong amount. Then I receive the second tax involves in July which is the correct amount $11700 AUD due by 31-7-2011, I did pay $11700 on time, but later I receive a penalty $250 AUD. I have no idea where is this come from so I went to school and ask student service. They says I need to pay before 31-6-2011.

The question is they sent me a wrong amount which I can't not pay on time, but I get penalty $250 AUD anyway. I would like to know whose fault is it? The problem is, as oversea student $11700 is too much already, I've been talk to the student service by e-mail, but the result is I have to pay the penalty. Can anyone please help me !

You say tax, but I gather this is tuition. It seems strange to call tuition payments tax, but I guess it doesn't make a lot of difference.

So the notice erroneously gave you until the last day in July to make the payment, when it should have been the end of June? Your post is confusing, because you first say you paid it on tome, but go on to say that you "can not pay on time".

If the notice was erroneous, I would continue to communicate with them until they acknowledge your question and indicate why you still have to pay the penalty. It appears, however, that even if the notice was incorrect, you would have been unable to pay in a timely manner, even if the notice had been correct. If so, you may ultimately have to pay the penalty.
