Kitchen sink backup with no known cause
We are buying a 70-yr old home in Alameda. The home inspection report indicates slow drainage of the kitchen sink. More facts from the owner is kitchen sink occasionally backs up and drains slowly.

She had it snaked a few times this year and replaced the pipe from the sink under the house in the crawl space. Had a camera snaked and was told that the pipe under the lower level floor was clear. The problem of slow drainage and water back-up didn't go away after all that had been done.

We are 1st time home buyers, and have little to no knowledge about plumbing. The owner basically said it's up to us to figure this one out. Any advice on what might be the cause of the problem and estimated cost of fixing it would be greatly appreciated!

If the original owner replaced pipe under the house than blockage is between sink and new pipe. Usually, people don't want to break the wall to replace vertical section of drain but there are 2 bends that may - and most likely are cause - of the problem. That's especially true if our fittings are old and cast iron. Replace that section of pipe and your sink should drain w/o problem. Back to you. Milo
