91 Civic maintenance tips (esp after I burnt my Alternator!)
    Greetings from Arizona again...

Pardon my query if that silly enough... but since I haven't owned a car before entirely on my own, I need some help...

Can somebody direct me to some kind of a comprehensive guide for Maintenance of 91 Civic... or any similar (aged) car in general... esp after I burnt the alternator by putting full heater on at 70mph for a long time... :(

    Thanks !

    1. Reading sections L and M will help somewhat:

    2. Buy a Haynes Manual for your car, available at most auto part stores.

It's no longer safe to use just any antifreeze in cars these days. The results can be disastrous, if the wrong type is used. Some are based on Organic Acid Technology (OAT), such as DexCool, others are based on Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT), such as G-05, still others are just traditional (green) ethylene glycol based products. The Japanese prefer non-silicate, non-borate antifreeze. I believe the Germans prefer non-phosphate and non-borate antifreeze. It's not safe to experiment with antifreeze. Using the wrong product can cause premature gasket failure, premature water pump failure, and catastrophic aluminum corrosion problems. I could say more, but I think this is enough.

For Hondas, the recommended antifreeze is Honda Genuine Premium Antifreeze, mixed with distilled water. Using other types of coolant could result in unforeseen risks.
