I had my first DUI back in Dec. 2008. I had a clean record before my first DUI. I talk to my Employer's about becoming a boss. The job requires me to get a CDL. To haul a forklift to the job site every night.eligble for a CDL.

What is your question? One problem could be with the fleet insurer of your company. They may wish to exclude you because of the DUI. Any other violations before and since?

It depends on the laws of your state. You may be able to get a CDL if the violation is more than three years old. However, just having a CDl does not mean that you are insurable at a reasonable rate. Keep in mind that you are handling very expensive heavy equipment, and even if your employer values you and wishes to hire you for the new position, they may not be able to offer it to you after trying to insure you. As ma0641 asked, have you had any other moving violations?

I retired from a major insurer with numerous large fleet accounts. We would most likely have put a 3 year hold on a DUI. But, with no other infractions, underwriters do have some discretion in a risk management template.
