    H1B holder and dependents
    Hi
I'm really confused when trying to calculate my net income using all these online calculators.
    Here is my question:
I will be working in US on H1B visa and I'm coming there together with my wife and 2 kids ( all of them on H4 visas ).
How many dependents could / should I claim to see what would be my net paycheck in the bank?
For example if my gross annual salary let's say $92K what could be my monthly net income.
The residence is in New Jersey and the payroll is semi-monthly.

    Thank you very much!

On the NJ exemption form (state equivalent to the federal W-4), claim MARRIED with FOUR allowances.

On the W-4, you CAN claim MARRIED, but under special IRS rules for foreign workers, the MOST allowances you can claim is TWO.

The reason for this is to ensure that enough money is withheld from your salary to cover your federal tax liability. It seems that, in the past, foreign workers came to the U.S, worked for several years, claim a HIGH number of exemptions so that NO money was withheld from their salary, then returned to their home country having NEVER filed a tax return. By the time the IRS discovered the lack of tax returns, the worker was safely in his home country and the IRS could not legally collect the taxes owed if there was no tax treaty.
