    Student slander
I am a substitute teacher. I have been accused by a student of pushing them. This is not true. I have been relieved of my duties without pay while the school conducts an "investigation." Can I file a police report against this student for slander?

You can sue the student for this slanderous remark if you lose your job at the school. The police won't be the ones to take a slander report though. Do you have any witnesses to this student's false accusation?

I hope you don't teach English.

Yes, I know that the use of the plural third-person objective pronoun as a singular, unisex third-person pronoun is common, and maybe even "accepted", but that doesn't make it right.

You do know the sex of the student who accused you, don't you?

Slander isn't a crime, so why should the police care?

Yes, there are several witnesses to this incident.
I looked up slander, and it is a crime.
And no, I don't teach English.
To whom would one report such an incident if not the police?

Slander is not criminal, its civil. That's what AK meant that its not a crime. If you have a case of slander, you file a civil suit.

Presumably you have an Attorney to represent you so that you don't lose your teaching certification - that's the person to advise you.

A lot depends on your State, the age of the student, what is reasonable behavior for the student's age, if you teach students who are emotionally disabled or learning disabled - there are a lot of factors here.

If you DO get a Judgment it will be against someone under age. There's little point in that.
