    Will an OBGYN use a child's speculum on a sexually active woman in her 20s?
    Also, is it possible for the speculum to break by the vagina tighting because the patient gets tense during the exam?

    My doctor's disposable specula are made of a good-quality plastic, so none would ever break. Did this happen to you?

    The doctor will use the size of speculum that fits comfortably in the vagina. If the vaginal vault is tight then a child's speculum may be used.

    No, a speculum cannot break off into the vagina as it is either made with metal or high quality strong plastic.
