    Fuel pump relay location:

Check the under hood fuse/relay box.

How to change the fuel filter:

. Disconnect the negative battery cable and depressurize the fuel system, likely by opening the gas cap. On some vehicles, you depressurize the fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay or pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it stumbles. Do all work outside, with rags and a fire extinguisher handy.

. Loosen the bolt to the fuel filter bracket.

. Use flare nut or small adjustable wrenches to remove the line threaded into the base of the filter--allow the gasoline to drain.

. Remove the filter from the bracket.

. Remove the flexible hose from the old filter. Depending upon the set-up, you may need to use a standard 5/16" quick disconnect tool. Don't try to pry it off--you will wreck it. If room is tight and you can't get the quick disconnect tool on, take a small hacksaw and cut the nipple off as close to the filter as possible. Then, use the quick disconnect tool and everything will suddenly get very simple.

I had to cut the nipple off a 2004 Suburban 4WD fuel filter about 3 weeks ago, when I changed the filter, and follow these basic steps.
