I'm receiving a series of emails from them in response to my job application.

Asked and answered here many times already (just look below and similar questions).
The short answer is NO.
When you get hit with emails from a place you don't know, be very suspicious, and never send money thinking it will get you a job. At best your name will be sold to other companies who prey on the gullible.
